Inclusiveness Statement of Principle

At Denver Kids, Inc., we are here for kids.  In recognition of our increasingly diverse population and our mission to support the educational success of our students, Denver Kids, Inc. is committed to creating, instilling, and modeling a sustainable culture of inclusiveness.  We define inclusiveness as creating a safe, compassionate, accepting environment, based on equality and fairness that honors, respects, and values the unique contributions and backgrounds of all people.

Through positive role modeling, we embrace our differences and advocated for kids, ourselves and others.  We empower and promote active participation from and in partnership with our students, parents, staff, boards, volunteers and any stakeholders, which allows everyone to voice opinions and express their ideas towards creating the greater success of Denver Kids, Inc.

We are committed to engaging in continuous learning and integrating inclusiveness into all of Denver Kids, Inc.'s programs, policies and procedures for the success of our students, our personal growth, and the better serve our community.

La razón de  ser  de Denver Kids, Inc., son los niños. En reconocimiento a la población, cada vez más diversa con la que contamos, y nuestra misión de apoyar el éxito en la educación de nuestros estudiantes, Denver Kids, Inc. esta comprometido en crear, instalar, y adoptar una cultura de inclusión estable. Nosotros definimos inclusión como un lugar seguro, integrador y humano, basado en la igualdad y equidad que honra, respeta y valora los aportes únicos de todas las personas.

A través de un  modelo positivo, nosotros aceptamos nuestras diferencias y abogamos por los niños, nosotros y los demás. Inclusiveness Resources

As an organization that is committed to continuous learning and integrating inclusiveness in every aspect of our work, when possible, Denver Kids, Inc. will make available educational resources that are contributing to our inclusiveness process.

  • The Danger of a Single Story by Chimamanda Adichie provides insight into how our experiences create our perceptions of reality and that a single story of a person, culture, or community is not the whole story. Click here to view Chimamanda on TED Talks.
  • In March 2012, Denver Kids, Inc. hosted a screening of a documentary Our Neighborhood Schools, a film that is part of the Rebels Remembered series. The films track the Civil Rights movement in Denver over the last several decades. Our Neighborhood Schools explores the desegregation movement in the 1960s and 70s in the Denver Public Schools district. Click here to learn more about these films and how to obtain a copy.
  • During its series on Race - The Power of an Illusion, PBS interviewed john a. powell, a leading scholar on civil rights, civil liberties, and issues related to race, poverty, and equity, regarding the social construct of race. Click here to read interview with powell and explore his insight on race and its impact on wealth and housing, as well as changing demographics of society.
