Career Readiness

In addition to college prep, the Future Options Program provides career exploration assistance to 6th – 12th grade Denver Kids, Inc. students.  The Future Options Coordinator provides Denver Kids, Inc. middle and high school students with workshops, campus and industry tours, and internship opportunities to engage students in career exploration and job readiness exercises.

Middle school students begin to discover the possibility, and realistic opportunities, of attending a two and four year college through an introduction to higher education.  This includes campus tours, career shadowing days, career aptitude tests and interest exploration, and workshops that investigate the role of education in achieving employment.

Denver Kids, Inc. high school students participate in College Boot Camp and begin to develop resumes, explore educational and career interests and options, and develop goals on how to meet the requirements needed to apply and ultimately be accepted into college and the workforce.  Campus tours include meeting advisors and students and sitting in classes.  The Future Options Coordinator hosts workshops for parents and students to walk through the college application and financial aid (FAFSA) application process.  To begin to consider a future career, students participate in career days and job shadowing.  Students also have the opportunity to pursue internships and career mentoring. Due to the fact that 80% of Denver Kids, Inc. students are the first in their families to attend college, the Future Options Coordinators, with the help of our Educational Counselors and Parent Liasion, continuously engage parents in the college discovery and application process.
